About AWPA

The Animals’ Welfare and protection Association (AWPA) was formed and registered under the Companies’ Ordinance in 1963 by a small group of animal lovers, concerned by the distressing conditions that stray animals are subject to in Sri Lanka. A non-profit, organization, the AWPA is committed to the welfare of stray, abandoned, homeless and abused dogs and cats.
The Association was certified as a Voluntary organization under the Voluntary Social Service Organization Act No. 31 of 1980.
Managed by a committee of Volunteers the AWPA rescues, shelters and facilitates the adoption of homeless domestic animals, dogs and cats by finding them good homes.

People and animals share this earth. We believe that by living in a manner where our behaviour and choices are considerate of the impact we have on animals, and as such treat animals with compassion and respect, both people and animals benefit.
