Shelters

The Association was able to open the first ever shelter for animals in Sri Lanka, ‘The Animal Welfare Transit Home’ situated at 107, Kadawatha Road, Dehiwela in 1968. While certain renovations have been made to this shelter, a major overhaul is needed, for which we would be most grateful to receive assistance.

In 2004, the AWPA was fortunate to benefit from further substantial donations which made it possible for us to embark on an ambitious project The result was the launch of our second shelter, ‘Sathva Sevana’ meaning ‘Shelter for Animals’ at No.16D ½, Diyagama Road, Kahathuduwa. Both homes are no kill shelters, in which the AWPA provides humane shelter and care to over 300 animals at present. Our animals are lovingly treated, with no animals restricted in any way.
